Is An Anger Management Program Right For You

Well, it has finally gotten the better of you and now you have landed yourself in a predicament. You had a case of road rage, spousal rage or simply blew a proverbial gasket and went off on a tirade against other people.

The cops were called and now you find that managing anger on your own is not an option. You were handcuffed, a ticket was written and now you have to make an appearance in court and a judge will likely order you to take an anger management program. Congratulations for losing your cool and providing a great example for others.

Hopefully, you have not let your anger go too far. You really may want to think about how seriously the law takes anger aggression. Murders have been committed over less than an improper lane change. Anger management courses are filled with people who did not think they had a problem.

Most anger “addicts” believe that they are in the right. This usually is a very, very misaligned perception. But you can manage anger by attending a course about anger management. You will be surprised to learn what your triggers are, how to resolve conflicts peacefully and how to be more assertive.

Aggressive people cannot be doormats for other’s but may only be able to assert themselves through anger and aggression. It may seem a bit silly to think of an aggressive person as being dominant but it may not be the case and they can still find themselves trying to manage anger in their lives. Just remember: there are times to be assertive and times to be aggressive. You must know the differences between the two.

There are certain triggers that seem to set some people off. It may be the morning commute with all of the traffic jams and other bad drivers that is setting you off. You become irritated on the drive and by the time you get to work you are in a foul mood.

An anger management program can help you deal with managing anger and the triggers that can cause you to go into a rage. Sometimes you have to just let the situation go since you cannot control the actions of others. Just tell yourself, “It could be worse. Maybe I’ll find a different, less congested route.”

It may feel like you are making a mistake and you feel that you do not have a problem if you are forced to enter an anger management program. Take the time to listen what the therapists and counselors are saying. Talk to others that have gone through the program. Being involved with the anger management group is the first step to healing your body and your mind.

Stress Management And The Wonders Of Vitamin C

The purpose of this article is to understand what happens during frequent stress over long time periods and how it can be dealt with.

Instead of vitamin C going into the usual metabolic pathways required for smooth bodily functioning, during stress, the body takes away some of this vitamin in order to cope. So, frequent long-term stress leading to vitamin C deficient supplies to the body’s normal metabolic pathways can eventually result in a range of illnesses.

This long-term stress leading to vitamin C deficiency and illness could be due to physical and mental factors:

Experiencing situations of coldness stress whereby the body is frequently at low temperature due to cold weather or inadequate heating… The body’s internal thermostatic mechanisms (homeostasis) needed to bring the body up to normal temperature requires vitamin C. Thus, a failure to supply the body’s normal metabolic pathways with adequate vitamin C can lead to poor immune system building resulting in colds and flu.

Another physically stressful situation is backbone hernia caused by frequent lifting of heavy weights. Back stress pains brought on by constant heavy lifting is caused by the jelly-like spongy matter between disc vertebrae to wear right down. This is exacerbated by a lack of vitamin C required for the making of this material as a replacement is needed.

Mentally stressful situations involve switching on the sympathetic nervous system (a division of the parasympathetic involuntary nervous system) in order to cope. The sympathetic nervous system switches on to deal with situations that require action, hence the term ‘fight or flight’ response. The body engages: a faster heart rate, increased blood circulation to supply vital organs quicker, elevated blood pressure and breathing rates… etc. just like the requirements needed for an animal under the pursuit of its predator… but the individual in this situation is not moving anywhere; This stress, brought on my psychological interpretation, once again requires vitamin C: Long-term deficiency of vitamin C can then lead to strokes and heart disease.

So, whether it’s for treating colds and flu, or backbone, or mental stress, or a whole range of other related illnesses the answer lies in increasing levels of vitamin C as an essential remedy. Don’t be deceived, some poorly set up experiments have been conducted to show that the vitamin C solution doesn’t work. That’s because the levels of vitamin C have not been high enough. As Nobel prise winning scientist Linus Pauling said “Physicians, when treating patients with vitamins don’t always remember how important dosage is for effective cure…”

For suggested dosages I suggest that you look up the excellent websites out there dedicated to the wonders of vitamin C and its role in the prevention of stress,

Time Management Tips – 3 Insights To Using Collaboration To Increase Your Priority Power

Time management tips are just as important when you work in tandem with others. But the dynamics can create complications. To make the most of your time, develop your collaborative skills. Keep in mind the following points as you enter into group projects.

When conceptualizing a project with multiple participants, structure the work flow in terms of dependencies. As you do this, your capacity to prioritize effectively will grow. .

A. Collaboration, Dependencies and Efficiency

Perhaps you have encountered the project management term, “dependency” before.

In essence, when a task you share responsibility for requires collaboration, the “dependency” is someone outside of your immediate work group who plays an essential role in your achieving your goals. When you prioritize tasks, dependencies must be factored in and accounted for.

For example, let’s say that you work closely with a few different departments at your job. You need to establish a working budget every quarter, so you look to the finance department to supply you with accurate figures. Because they generally take about a month to assemble and present you with the necessary data, prioritize your request. Therefore, you need to make it well in advance of your due date. This way, you get the data you need with time to spare.

B. When You Are At The Hub Of Others’ Plans

And of course, others depend on you as well.

In one scenario, your daughter needs your help in assembling her costume in the next school performance. In order for her to to succeed, she trusts you to provide essential support. As a result, you prioritize this task very highly indeed! Your love and respect for your child and acknowledgment that she relies on your assistance induces you to schedule the work in right away.

C. The Benefits of Considering Dependencies As You Schedule And Assign Priorities

You gain in any number of ways when your plans include dependencies from the onset.

1. Chances are that your productivity increases with every incremental step forward.

2. The more you think in terms of coordination, the more understanding you develop of the entire working system. In the same way that defensive driving helps you view the traffic patterns more astutely, you’ll find that a holistic overview of your workplace helps you establish more realistic priorities and due dates.

3. Finally, note how staying attuned to others’ needs and time constraints often promotes good will and flow. As you understand others’ priorities, they may in turn relate with more sensitivity to yours. Your time is enhanced, you become more efficient and effective, and general morale increases.

Remember, there are always new ways to develop more productivity while clarifying important relationships.

IT Project Management for Software Development

ABOUT THE CUSTOMER Incorporated in 2000, Abritas is an independent supplier of web-based, fully managed business systems to over 180 local authorities throughout the United Kingdom (UK), including housing associations and social care providers.

Abritas offers a range of modules to manage key areas of social housing including housing register, choice-based lettings, homelessness, enhanced housing options and tenancies and rents. The company’s fully integrated web solution is available across key aspects of social housing to provide applicants and staff with a complete solution from online applications to online advertisement and bidding, shortlisting and social housing allocation.

MAIN CHALLENGES Replace Microsoft Project desktop Manage project budgets, resources and performance more closely Offer greater project task visibility for overruns to ensure swift action Abritas’ expansion and growth created the need to more closely manage project budgets, resources and the performance of the growing number of client implementation projects running concurrently. With a separate timesheet system used to track time, and Microsoft Project used to track project progress, the company relied on a number of manual reports that were created to determine costs and to monitor performance.

“Estimating accurate costs at the start of a project, and the expected cost at completion, was a challenge,” explains the program manager. “More often than not, issues relating to project task overruns were not visible early enough to take action. The management team had to rely on manual reports being created on a weekly basis to track status and highlight any risks or delays across the project program.”

WHY PROJECT INSIGHT Program planning to determine project costs and profit estimates Project planning that provides regular updates and status reports Project financial performance reporting to monitor each project’s current and forecasted profit based on real-time status and costs incurred Program performance reporting that provides overall profit monitoring across all projects and specific alerts relating to major cost overruns Project documentation to ensure quality checks are completed at critical points in the project Custom forms and fields to manage product enhancement requests and plan future system releases based on priority enhancements Abritas identified four key criteria that a potential solution would need in order to address the major challenges faced by both project managers and the management team:

Identify a project management solution to replace Microsoft Project desktop Ensure the solution could replace timesheets with an easy-to-use interface Provide real-time project progress reporting that closely monitored the entire project program, highlighting delays or task overruns affecting project profitability Provide each project resource with a clear list of tasks along with the order to be completed, and when “In meeting with team leaders across the business, we identified an additional key criterion: the need to replace the system we used to manage the issues or faults our clients identified,” the program manager says.

By integrating this issue management functionality into the project management solution, project managers would be able to raise issues specifically against project tasks, assign these to individuals for resolution and track the time spent resolving each issue.

After searching the market to identify which project management solutions potentially met the majority of the company’s criteria, the program manager selected three providers to undergo a four-step trial.

He explains: “The three solutions were scored based on each of our key evaluation criteria, their general ease of use, and their general ability to customize the project management software specifically to our own requirements. Of the three solutions, Project Insight not only scored highest in each of the key criteria, it was the only solution that could be self-hosted or installed on premise which, though not a key requirement originally, offered us the ability to take ownership of the solution and technology while being fully supported by the Project Insight technical support team.”

THE RESULTS See a complete picture of actual project costs incurred to date and the expected forecasted profit at project completion Take quick action to mitigate key areas of overrun or concern Capture projects and time within a single system to more accurately assess performance Obtain an easy-to-use software solution to manage projects more closely within a collaborative environment Provide a project management solution tailored to Abritas’ business needs to ensure the company proactively manages project delivery and analyzes performance for future improvements Project Insight was installed in May 2010, and by October 2010 all client implementation projects had been migrated into the project management software.

What’s the biggest benefit of implementing Project Insight project management software?

According to the program manager, “It’s having a complete picture of the actual project costs incurred to date and the expected forecasted profit at project completion. Previously we manually compiled this information from reports generated within separate systems, which was time consuming. And, in reality, the information was out of date by the time it was compiled. There was no ability to really analyze or drill into the data specifically when project performance was suffering.”

Because both project managers and the management team now have a real-time picture of project performance, they can quickly take action to mitigate key areas of overrun or concern. With projects and time captured within a single system, project managers now can more accurately assess performance and, retrospectively, adapt project plans to ensure greater accuracy in the future.

The program manager sums up, “Project Insight offers our users an easy-to-use solution with all the benefits of Microsoft Project and a time management solution, but with the capability we require to manage projects more closely within a collaborative environment. We now have the ability to more accurately plan timescales and costs during the sales process as well as more closely manage projects’ performance to reduce overrun and maximize profitability. The Project Insight solution also enables us to tailor our own business needs to ensure we proactively manage project delivery while analyzing project performance to address areas for future improvement.”

Project Insight worked so well for project management, that now the development teams also use the software to more accurately plan their system releases and determine resource requirements.
