The Woman’s Handbag Can Be A Lifesaver Of A Back Breaker
A handbag is a wonderful thing. It is almost part of her woman’s anatomy except it detachable, comes in all shapes and sizes and in a variety of colors and fabrics. How could a woman function without her handbag? It carries everything she needs to go from point A to point B and anyplace in between. The handbag is a vessel for so many things such as wallets, a checkbook, make up bag, leather cigarette cases, glasses cases, change purse. A woman’s handbag becomes her bedt friend and caddy.
But wait the woman’s handbag can also cause back pain and affect a woman’s posture by carrying too much weight in that bag. Think about what happens when a woman is dressed up to go to work with a handbag full of accoutrements, a possible briefcase with a laptop in it, and she’s wearing four-inch heels. What does this do to her back, her neck, and shoulders? It’s a chiropractor’s dreammany sessions of adjustments to get things back into alignment.
Stop the torture and think about how to make corrections without sacrificing the fashionable look. First thing to do is to take out the weight and only carry what you need. A rule of thumb is to carry 10%-15% of our bodyweight. The problem is, we all carry more than we should so sit down and empty all contents from the bag and sort through things that are absolutely, positively necessary and the things you can live without.
Another way to stop the pain is to alternate shoulders while you’re carrying the bag. It will help to distribute the weight instead of focusing on one shoulder to bear the brunt. It will help to distribute the burden and exercise the unused shoulder.
Are you married to one bag? It is a good idea to change bags. Use a larger bag throughout the day and carry a smaller bag or purse for evening. If you go out to lunch while at work, leave the larger bag in your desk and take a smaller purse out so you’re not carrying a lot of weight with you. Leave the larger bag in the car and carry the purse for shopping for groceries or clothes. Do you need to lug all that stuff while in a mall or grocery store? In most cases, the answer is, “no”. Save your back. Less is definitely more.
